Netta Levin, MD-Phd

Research Interests:
My field of study is the reorganization of the human brain following insults to the visual system ranging from the optic nerve to the visual cortex. To that end, I have been utilizing phase mapping methods, to compare retinotopic maps in normal subjects with maps of patients suffering from topographically restricted damage to the retina (scotoma).I also studied the degree to which the visual areas are immune to an episode of optic neuritis. I found that the patterns of the cortical activation in those patients differed considerably along the visual cortical hierarchy (Levin & al, Neuroimage, 2006). Currently, I am using new methods, including pathway tracking with DTI and receptive field estimation with fMRI to evaluate the impact of sight restoration after long lasting visual deprivation. I hope to provide a unique perspective of the reorganization process as well as helpful tools in the clinical assessment and the rehabilitation of visual disorders generated by neural injuries.
